Why use TMYC for your training

Founded in 1930, Thames Motor Yacht Club (TMYC) is one of the oldest and most prestigious boating clubs on the River Thames.  We are situated just upriver of Hampton Court Bridge, enjoying a delightful and unique view of the Thames.

TMYC is affiliated to the RYA and each year offers shore-based navigation courses, culminating in RYA certified examinations.  Our lecturers are qualified RYA instructors and employ a variety of teaching methods.

Always extremely popular are our:

  • RYA Day Skipper
  • RYA Yachtmaster / Coastal Skipper

This year, our prices remain extremely competitive at £325 each, representing an average £50 saving on similar courses on the Thames.  Added to this, we are able to offer not only theoretical training, but hands-on practical experience in a boating environment, and the benefit of temporary membership of the Club.

As well as the RYA courses, TMYC is also able to arrange courses for boating enthusiasts and Club members in:

  • Diesel Engine
  • Radio Communications (VHF)
  • CEVNI (Code Europeen de Voies de Navigation Interieure)
  • First Aid at Sea

The Club offers a friendly, relaxed environment in which to gain your nautical training. On course nights, our main Clubhouse will be open, and range of hot & cold snacks and drinks will be available from our galley. Students automatically receive temporary membership of the Club, and can enjoy any of the Club functions, competitions or activities, socialise with other members at our Riverside Bar, and meet other boating enthusiasts.

Our friendly members will always be on hand to give helpful advice, and at weekends often run boating clinics – a practical series of informal lessons (free of charge) which cover topics such as ropework and boat-handling, usually involving exercises on members’ boats.

Altogether, the TMYC offers a comprehensive programme of leisure and training activities – guaranteed to be enjoyable.
